CHUCKWAGON LEGEND RAE CROTEAU JR. RAISES AWARENESS FOR SHELDON KENNEDY CHILD ADVOCACY CENTRE

CALGARY, AB (June 3, 2015) - The Sheldon Kennedy Child Advocacy Centre (SKCAC) is proud to continue its partnership for the second year with Chuckwagon driver Rae Croteau Jr. and his 2015 tour sponsors TOMCO Group and Glover International. Rae, TOMCO Group and Glover are helping to create awareness on the issue of child abuse by promoting the Sheldon Kennedy Child Advocacy Centre during the 2015 WPCA Pro Tour circuit. The promotion will lead up to the launch of the 2015 #chucks4bucks social media fund raising campaign at the Calgary Stampede Rangeland Derby this July.

Rae was introduced to Sheldon Kennedy last year and learned about the work being done by the Child Advocacy Centre in Calgary that bears his name.  Rae created a twitter campaign using the hashtag #chucks4bucks which was mentioned 7,168 times, with a total reach of 3.2 million impressions during the 10 days of the 2014 Calgary Stampede Rangeland Derby.

“Having had the opportunity to get to know Sheldon Kennedy and the work of the SKCAC over the past year inspired me, my family and my sponsors to lend a hand and encourage the entire community to come together to create better futures for those impacted by child abuse,” says Croteau. “The more we can talk publicly about this issue, the sooner we will see a day when child abuse no longer exists.”

“Rae and his team have huge hearts,” says Sheldon Kennedy.  “They are supporting an issue that many people have been reluctant to talk about and have helped create a platform to reach new audiences across the province. We are looking forward to working with Rae and his team again this year to create further awareness and help educate the community on the impact of child abuse on children, youth, families and communities.”

The Sheldon Kennedy Child Advocacy Centre opened its doors in February 2013 and in its first two years of operation assessed 2,907 infants, children and youth.  On average, 121 infants, children and youth were assessed per month through joint triage at the SKCAC each month.  These represent all child sexual abuse cases reported to the police and the most serious, severe and/or complex cases of physical and sexual abuse reported to any of the SKCAC partners.
