Fitness Challenge Update # Bonus Fitness Minute Ideas!

A fitness challenge is underway with 78 staff who work at the SKCAC.  Four teams have been created to challenge each other in this fun competition.  They are:

The Go Getters 

What the Fit

Weapons of Mass Reduction

Gung Ho Snipers 

Team members submit the number of minutes they spend participating in fitness related activities.  The challenge runs from July 1 to September 30.  At the end of the challenge the third and fourth place teams will host a potluck lunch for the first and second place teams.  

Check the monitor in the kitchen for regular updates on how the teams are doing.

The University of Calgary

You’ll find plenty of fitness opportunities at U of C including a pool, climbing wall, a bouldering wall and an expansive 10,500 sq ft gymnasium with every piece of equipment you could need.

Calgary Canoe Club

Open from May 1st to October 31st.  Rent a canoe or kayak for either a relaxing time on the Glenmore Reservoir, or for an intense upper body workout. http://calgarycanoeclub.com/

Yoga

Yoga classes are held every Wednesday at noon in the SKCAC training room.  Join a class and add an additional 60 minutes to your team’s total!

Hiking

Want to add some serious minutes to your team’s total?  Try hiking in and around Calgary.  The best resource for hikes in Calgary is Trail Peak. Click below for a map of all the hikes in our area.

The closest hike to the SKCAC is Edworthy Park: http://www.trailpeak.com/index.jsp?con=trail&val=3440

If your 20 person team did this hike, it would mean an additional 2400 minutes to your team’s total.   Even if half of your team joined in, that would be 1200 minutes.

Foothills Aquatic Centre

A variety of registered and drop-in fitness classes are available to fit your schedule. Foothills Aquatic centre is located next to Foothills Athletic Park and Father David Bauer and Norma Bush Arenas.

Team Walks at Lunchtime

Get your team together and head to Starbucks or Subway to collect 20 minutes.  If your entire team goes, that’s almost 400 minutes.
