For Adult Survivors

For Adult Survivors of Abuse

1/3 of Canadians report experiencing any type of child abuse including physical, sexual, and witnessing domestic violence.

Studies indicate that 10% of children report the abuse while it is happening, but many victims wait until they are adults to disclose abuse.

Child abuse can impact an individual’s development in a number of ways and more than a third of Canadians who have experienced abuse also deal with mental health disorders. Some types of mental health issues related to child abuse include:

  • Suicide/suicide ideation
  • Cutting
  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Borderline Personality Disorder
  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
  • Panic attacks
  • Dissociation
  • Eating Disorders
  • Additions

If you have experienced abuse as a child and want help, help is available.
