Sheldon Kennedy Receives Recognition

The Board of Directors and staff at the SKCAC are pleased to congratulate Sheldon on receiving a number of very prestigious awards over the past several weeks.                           

Order of Canada

On May 8, Sheldon was appointed as a Member of the Order of Canada and received his insignia from the Governor General at a ceremony in Rideau Hall.  The Order of Canada recognizes outstanding achievement, dedication and service to Canada.

Lincoln Alexander Outstanding Leader Award

Sheldon received the 2015 Lincoln Alexander Outstanding Leader Award from the University of Guelph on May 27.  The award honours exemplary and dedicated Canadian leaders whose careers have included groundbreaking, socially significant pursuits.

University of Calgary Honorary Degree

On June 8, Sheldon received an Honorary Degree, Doctor of Laws from the University of Calgary.  This is the university’s highest academic honour, bestowed on individuals whose notable achievements and community service merit recognition.  The university had this to say:

“Kennedy is one of Canada’s finest role models. He has shown courage and selflessness in sharing his story and is an inspiration to millions of abuse survivors around the world. Today, the University of Calgary recognizes him with an honorary degree, and thanks him for his extraordinary commitment to violence and abuse prevention programs in Canada.”

Order of Manitoba

On July 9, Sheldon received the Order of Manitoba, the province’s highest honour.  The award recognizes individuals who have demonstrated excellence and achievement in any field of endeavor, benefiting in an outstanding manner the social, cultural or economic well-being of Manitoba and its residents.

 

On behalf of everyone at the Sheldon Kennedy Child Advocacy Centre, we want to congratulate Sheldon for his hard work and dedication in continually raising awareness and advocating for leading practices in the area of child abuse.
